The Group 2 EW Barker Trophy (1400m) was known as the Heartstrings Silver Cup when it was first launched in 1993. It was upgraded to Group 2 status and renamed the EW Barker Memorial Trophy in 2002 in honour of the late EW Barker, former chairman of the Singapore Turf Club.

Run on turf, the feature race was briefly discontinued in 2021 and 2022 before being brought back on the Singapore racing calendar last year. Under a good steer from jockey Manoel Nunes, Super Salute went on to beat favourite Golden Monkey for the EW Barker Trophy 2023.
