Press Release

SINGAPORE TURF CLUB TO HOST PUBLIC PHOTO WALKS AND PHOTO COMPETITION AHEAD OF FINAL RACE IN OCTOBER 2024

As the Singapore Turf Club (STC) enters the final lap of its history, it will host the public in a series of photo walks from May to June 2024, providing an opportunity to connect with the Club’s racing heritage and to appreciate its architectural and natural landscape from new angles. Titled Singapore Turf Club: Capturing Our Beauty, the photo walks are categorised into three categories: Architecture, Flora and Fauna and Racing. This programme will culminate in a photo competition drawing entries from the photo walks and from the wider public.

Responding to Strong Public Interest

The Club has received a steady stream of requests from photography interest groups and members of the public for an opportunity to capture a piece of STC’s 182-year history and heritage. The photo walks form an integral part of STC’s drive to engage with the community leading up to its final race on 5 October 2024. Registration for these walks will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Catering to Diverse Photography Interests

The photo walks will be conducted on 11 May 2024, 18 May 2024 and 2 June 2024, offering unique experiences themed around Architecture, Flora and Fauna and Racing. They will be led by two renowned Singaporean photographers, Lee Aik Soon and Lee Yik Keat.

Aik Soon is a multi-disciplinary artist whose emotive storytelling has earned him a diverse multinational clientele. Yik Keat, an Instagram luminary with 1.3 million followers, was recognised as an arts trailblazer in Forbes Asia 2022 prestigious 30 Under 30 honour list. They will act as both guides and mentors for the photo walks, sharing photography tips as well as insights on the vantage points and significance of the subject matter along the tour routes.

The three broad photography categories serve to cater to diverse photography interests:

  • Architecture: Delve into the history of STC with a photo walk highlighting the world-class racetracks and awe-inspiring grandstand, meticulous design details and the timeless elegance that defines STC’s architecture
  • Flora and Fauna: Embark on a guided exploration of the Club's expansive grounds and gain a deeper appreciation for the rich biodiversity that thrives within STC
  • Racing: Revel in the electrifying atmosphere of a race day, capture the action and witness the thrill of competition

Each photo walk will allow a maximum of 20 participants and take approximately two hours. An introduction on STC’s history, racing heritage and overview of the grounds will precede each tour.

Preserving STC's Beauty and Legacy

Winning entries from the photo walks as well as submissions from the public will be eligible for cash prizes of between $50 and $500 and will be displayed at a photo exhibition to be launched on the final race day on 5 October 2024. A total of three digital photographs may be submitted per entry; winners will be announced in September 2024. The judging panel will comprise Aik Soon, Yik Keat and STC representatives.

Members of the public can sign up for the photo walks and submit their photo entries on STC’s website at the following links:
