The Group 1 Singapore Gold Cup is the third and final Leg in the reinstated Singapore Triple Crown series this year. The Group 1 Raffles Cup (1600m) was the first Leg while the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup (1800m) formed the second Leg.
The Singapore Gold Cup was first run on 18 October 1924 at Farrer Park racecourse and the race was captured by Thelasocrete who took home $1,600. Now run over 2000m, the time-honoured race carries a prize purse of $1 million.
Last year, Hongkong Great handed trainer Ricardo Le Grange and visiting jockey Mark Zahra their first Singapore Gold Cup wins.
