SINGAPORE, 21 DECEMBER 2019 – More than 60 special needs childrenand their families cycled for the first time next to the same racecourse utilised by thoroughbreds at Singapore Turf Club. Organised by Ageless Bicyclists Ltd and hosted by the Singapore Turf Club, the children experienced a rare opportunity to enjoy a day of cycling around the racecourse accompanied by a team of volunteers from Ageless Bicyclists Ltd.

Faced with various challenges that affect their daily lives, the event was intended as a confidence booster for the children, designed to help improve their physical stability, sensory integration and motor skills. By partnering them with experienced cyclists, the children were able to experience a priceless cycling experience in a safe and conducive manner.

Ageless Bicyclists Ltd, a (non-profit) social enterprise formed in 2015, creates healthy lifestyle programmes for silver communities, youths, children with different abilities and their families. Their programmes include experiential cycling, exercises, bike mechanic & repairs and retreats, as well as outreach and overseas programmes that enhance intercultural experiences, friendships, family bonding and quality of life.

Izzy, 12, said “It is my first time coming to Singapore Turf Club. I am excited to be able to cycle at this unique and safe venue. I enjoyed myself today.”

“This event shows that anyone can enjoy cycling and enjoy its benefits, given the right support and environment. With the support of the Singapore Turf Club, we have been able to provide a fun and stimulating cycling route for the children where they can build friendships and confidence in themselves. Our beneficiaries can look forward to us organising more of such unique programmes in the coming months,” said Mr Malcolm Chen, Founder of Ageless Bicyclists.

Singapore Turf Club’s President and Chief Executive, Mr Chong Boo Ching shared, “With the successful staging of this unique experience at our racecourse, we hope our efforts have brought a smile to and bolstered the confidence of these children. The Club is looking forward to extending the usage of its racecourse and other facilities as we seek to be an enabler of sustainable efforts towards the community.”
