Course Scratching - inappetent; veterinary examination required
Lost ground after beginning awkwardly. Near the 850m, had to be eased after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of CAMBRIDGE. Continued to pull very hard.
Rider reported that the gelding jumped away awkwardly and as a result missed the start. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormality.
Had to be checked near the 800m.
Bumped shortly after the start by BLACK QUAIL and as a result, made heavy contact with HEARTLIGHT. Raced wide throughout.
Jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped BLACK QUAIL.
Jumped awkwardly inwards and shortly after the start, had to be eased to avoid the heels of HEARTLIGHT, which had been bumped outwards.
Near the 800m, was checked severely to avoid the heels of DESPACITO, which was pulling very hard and shifted inwards to avoid the heels of SALVADOR, which was also pulling very hard on the heels of DRAGON HIGH and also racing tight to the inside of HEARTLIGHT. In all the circumstances, the Stewards were of the view that the tempo at this stage of the race was the major contributing factor and for that reason, no further action was taken.
Had to be steadied passing the 300m to avoid the heels of IRONSIDE, which was taken outwards by WIND OF LIBERTY before being straightened by its rider.
Bumped by SACRED GURU and shifted outwards abruptly and bumped IRONSIDE out onto HEARTLIGHT.
Prior to the running of Race 10, Trainer D Meagher notified the Stewards that the tactics were to ride the gelding off the speed stepping up to 1400m.
Settled behind the leaders.
Checked near the 500m.
Course Scratching - lame off-fore; veterinary examination required
Shortly after the start, was bumped heavily by IRONSIDE. Raced wide throughout. Was disappointed for a clear run inside the 300m between SALVADOR and DESPACITO, which both shifted ground slightly. Was then shifted outwards to obtain clear running.
Raced wide without cover throughout.
Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
Was a late scratching at 1210Hrs on veterinary advice.
When questioned regarding the circumstances of the scratching given that it was a second emergency that had gained a run in the race, Trainer CT Kuah explained that the gelding had been leaving some feed and was withdrawn on veterinary grounds due to the gelding suffering from inappetence. It was established that the gelding had been treated with vitamins on Saturday, 06 April 2019 which has a seven day withholding period from racing. The Stewards were of the view that from that point in time, the gelding was ineligible to race having been treated within one clear day of racing and should have been withdrawn at that time. Subsequently, Trainer CT Kuah was found in breach of MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that he was negligent by not obtaining a veterinary certificate to withdraw the horse at an earlier time and subsequently, he was fined a sum of S$500.
In terms of MRA Regulation 24.2, it must be presented to an Official Veterinary Surgeon prior to being declared to race again.
M Zaki, the rider of CERDAN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that near the 500m, he allowed his mount to get in to a point where he left insufficient room to the two runners, SACRED GURU (R Woodworth) and ELISE (App CC Wong) to his inside. As a result, that caused SACRED GURU to shift inwards across the running of ELISE, which had to be checked. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea and the degree of interference and carelessness. On the matter of penalty, the Stewards set aside a decision until Jockey Zaki tenders further submissions in respect of that.
