Prior to the start, MOON RIVER (D David) was examined by the Veterinary
Surgeon and passed fit to race.
MOON RIVER was slow to begin after making contact with IKING (App Z Syed)
MOON CHARM (G Mosse) and SUCCESSION (M Nunes) bumped on jumping.
Approaching the 1200m, MOON CHARM brushed the running rail when racing
tight to the inside of SUCCESSION.
Near the 1200m, STORM TROOPER checked when racing between SUN
THUNDER (App CC Wong), to its inside and MONGOLIAN CHIEF (N Juglall),
IKING and BIG GUARDIAN (G Boss), to its outside. MOON CHARM and
SUCCESSION, which were following, were also inconvenienced in this
incident. An Inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.
SUCCESSION which was racing keenly near the 800m, had to be steadied off
the heels of STORM TROOPER.
ALFONSO (B Vorster) raced wide from the 800m.
BIG BANKER (O Placais) made the turn into the straight wide.
Jockey Beasley, when questioned regarding the run of DUKE OF NORMANDY,
stated that it was his intention to race more forward however, after jumping
reasonably, the gelding settled well and with the early pace in the race,
found himself further back then expected. His explanation was noted. A
subsequent veterinary examination was requested on DUKE OF NORMANDY
which revealed no apparent abnormality.
Jockey Nunes, when questioned regarding the run of SUCCESSION, stated
that after settling back in the field, the gelding travelled well. He added that
it failed to respond to his riding from the 500m and disappointed when
running on only fairly in the homestraight. Jockey Nunes also reported that
his saddle shifted back during the race, which was confirmed by the
Veterinary Surgeon. His explanation was noted. A subsequent veterinary
examination was requested on SUCCESSION which revealed no apparent
