RACE 8 [TF1521]
CLASS 4 1600M
Prior to the running of Race 8, Trainer ZL Mok advised the Stewards that his
instructions to Jockey D David, the rider of SAVAGE STORM, if circumstances
permit, from a wide barrier to try and ride it off the pace and run home
ANY RUMOUR (I Azhar) was slow into stride after jumping away awkwardly.
ECLIPSE DANCER (A Munro) dipped after being crowded between PERCIUS
(App I Amirul), which jumped inwards and SILENT ARROW (G Mosse), which
jumped outwards at the start.
SAVAGE STORM was difficult to settle for a short distance near the 1500m.
Making the turn near the 1200m, DBUFFALO MAN (M Rodd) laid outwards
and became awkwardly placed on the heels of SAVAGE STORM.
DBUFFALO MAN raced keenly in the middle stages.
DBUFFALO MAN and SAVAGE STORM both raced wide from the 800m.
Near the 450m, TERMS OF REFERENCE (B Vorster), which was held up on the
heels of TALES OF SUMMER (G Boss), made contact with MIGHTY KENNY (N
Juglall), which was racing to its outside.
Approaching the turn into the straight, SAVAGE STORM laid inwards making
contact with the hindquarters of RETURN TO JUSTICE (M Nunes).
MIGHTY KENNY and RETURN TO JUSTICE both laid outwards over the final
Near the 100m, ANY RUMOUR eased off the heels of PERCIUS, which shifted
inwards. App Amirul was subsequently shown the film of the incident and
warned to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.
A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on TERMS OF
REFERENCE which revealed no apparent abnormality.
Trainer M Yusof, when questioned regarding the apparent improved
performance of RETURN TO JUSTICE, stated that although it finished eighth,
it had not been far from the winner at its previous start, as such, the run was
better than the placing indicated. Since that run, RETURN TO JUSTICE has
been freshened and with the step up in distance to 1600m and with the
addition of a senior rider, he had expected the gelding to run well today. His
explanation was noted.
