Due to a delay in the start time of Race 6, this race was put back twenty
minutes and rescheduled to start at 2140Hrs.
ROYAL RULER (O Placais) jumped outwards at the start and made heavy
contact with EL PADRINO (O Chavez), bumping that gelding in onto ÉCLAIR
CHOICE (B Vorster), which shifted inwards. As a result, EL PADRINO was
crowded for room and had to be eased.
OLYMPIC ANTHEM (M Rodd) began awkwardly.
NOVA WARRIOR (R Shafiq) jumped awkwardly inwards bumping GOLDEN
SAND STEED (A Munro).
In the early stages, ÉCLAIR CHOICE had a tendency to lay inwards and in so
doing, made contact with ROYAL RULER on a couple of occasions.
THE GENERAL (N Juglall) and GREAT SUN (K AIsisuhairi) both raced wide
Jockey Vorster, when questioned regarding the run of ÉCLAIR CHOICE stated
that shortly after the start, the gelding commenced to lay inwards and
continued to do so for some distance making contact with ROYAL RULER on a
couple of occasions. He added that ÉCLAIR CHOICE travelled well from the
900m until passing the 700m however, when placed under pressure near the
600m, the gelding remained one paced and gave ground in the
homestraight. His explanation was noted.
ÉCLAIR CHOICE was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical
examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported no apparent abnormality.
A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on GREAT SUN which
revealed that the horse returned having bled. In terms of MRA Rule 92(5), it
will not be permitted to canter or gallop on the main training tracks of any
racecourse for a period of two months, and may not start in any race for a
period of three months, and then only after having satisfactorily passed a
