SINGAPORE AUGUST MEETING 2016
FRIDAY, 12 AUGUST 2016:

RACE 2 [TF1013]

On Wednesday, 17 August 2016, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into the
AWATERE (M Nunes) having to check when racing between GREAT WARRIOR
(M Chadwick) and STAR INVINCIBLE (N Juglall) to its outside and SKYHAWK
(A Munro) and ONE DEGREE NORTH (D David) to its inside approaching the
600m. It was established that approaching the 600m, AWATERE, which
when attempting a narrow run between ONE DEGREE NORTH and GREAT
WARRIOR, had to be checked when crowded between ONE DEGREE NORTH,
which shifted outwards slightly and GREAT WARRIOR, which initially shifted
inwards before being taken inwards slightly further by STAR INVINCIBLE.
During the incident, AWATERE bumped ONE DEGREE NORTH, resulting in
that gelding becoming unbalanced. In the circumstances, no blame could be
attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken.

RACE 3 [TF1014]

On Friday, 12 August 2016, Jockey O Placais, rider of ROBIN HOOD, was
charged with careless riding in that near the 300m, he allowed his mount to
shift inwards, when insufficiently clear, into the rightful run of HIGH TROJA
(M Rodd), resulting in that horse having to be taken inwards and eased off
the heels of ROBIN HOOD.

On Wednesday, 17 August 2016, the Stewards heard further evidence and
submissions from Jockey Placais and Jockey Rodd in relation to the careless
riding charge. It was established after taking evidence from Jockey Rodd,
the rider of HIGH TROJA, that HIGH TROJA was inclined to hang outwards at
several stages of the race, and hung outwards shortly prior to and after
entering the homestraight. This resulted in HIGH TROJA racing in a position
one off the rail and brushing ROBIN HOOD to its outside. Jockey Rodd added
that HIGH TROJA was not travelling well at this stage, and ROBIN HOOD,
which was travelling better, had shifted inwards when improving, and carried
HIGH TROJA towards the rail. Jockey Rodd further added that he restrained
HIGH TROJA at this stage as he was concerned about the gelding hanging
outwards onto the heels of ROBIN HOOD. After considering the evidence,
the Stewards were of the view that the charge issued against Jockey Placais
could not be sustained and the careless riding charge was withdrawn.
However, Jockey Placais was warned and advised that he must exercise
greater care when shifting ground in future.

RACE 9 [TF1020]

At the conclusion of an Inquiry on Wednesday, 17 August 2016, Jockey R
Shafiq, the rider of THE COSMOS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless
riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding THE COSMOS in Race
9 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Friday, 12 August 2016, in that near
the 1000m, he permitted his mount to shift inwards, when not sufficiently
clear of KAZOU (App K Toh), thereby dictating that gelding inwards onto CLIP
THE TICKET (I Saifudin), which was carried into the running of MASTER
DRAGON (M Zaki), which had to be checked, and, continuing to shift inwards,
when not sufficiently clear, crowding KAZOU, CLIP THE TICKET, ELITE STAR
(J Powell) and A LOT IN HAND (TH Koh), resulting all of those horses being
hampered. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his
record, guilty plea and the degree of interference and carelessness. Jockey
Shafiq was suspended from riding in races with immediate effect from
Wednesday, 17 August 2016 to Sunday, 21 August 2016 both dates inclusive
(two Singapore Race Days) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.

submissions from Jockey Nunes that he has been engaged to ride at the
