RACE 3 [TF1281]
OPEN BENCHMARK 67 LC (B) 1800M
After arriving at the barrier, DUAL IMPACT (R Woodworth) had its saddle
Subsequent to the race, after reviewing the films and prior to the All Clear
being given, the Stewards were of the opinion that LAUGHING GRAVY was
not denied a fair start and LAUGHING GRAVY was declared a runner. It was
established that as the start was being effected, LAUGHING GRAVY (T Bell)
lunged forward and in so doing, the geldings muzzle became wedged in the
barrier gate, resulting in LAUGHING GRAVY being retarded from jumping with
the field. LAUGHING GRAVY then exited the barrier a considerable distance
behind the other runners and given the nature of the incident, the gelding
was eased out of the race. LAUGHING GRAVY, which was fractious in the
barrier, will be required to pass one starting stall test prior to being declared
to race again in terms of MRA Rule 78(2).
ACROSS THE SEA (App K AIsisuhairi) jumped awkwardly inwards and
bumped PRECIOUS GEM (App R Shafiq).
Near the 1000m, VERGLATICA (CW Brown) steadied to avoid the heels of
BRAD (M Rodd), which shifted inwards and away from SMART LAD (B
SMART LAD and DUAL IMPACT both raced wide throughout.
Near the 600m, SMART LAD had to be checked when racing between
PRECIOUS GEM to the inside and DUAL IMPACT to the outside. OM (App WS
Chan), which was following, also had to be steadied inwards to avoid the
heels of SMART LAD, resulting in VERGLATICA also having to be steadied. An
Inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.
OM had a tendency to lay inwards in the straight.
A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on ACROSS THE SEA
which revealed no apparent abnormality. ACROSS THE SEA, which raced
poorly, will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary
examination prior to being declared to race again.
