RACE 6 [TF1016]
KRANJI STAKES D LC (D) 1400M
Due to a delay in the start time of Race 5, this race was put back five
minutes and rescheduled to start at 2055Hrs.
NATURAL NICE (J Powell) and WARSPIRIT (App T See) both began
Shortly after the start, LOUEY VELOCE (CW Brown) shifted inwards abruptly
and bumped STAR BEAUTY (App R Zawari), which lost ground.
Approaching the 1200m, LOUEY VELOCE and APPELLATION (App CK Ng)
were both crowded slightly between RAVOUX (App Y Ruzaili), which shifted
inwards and CONGO ZANDOR (R Woodworth), which rolled outwards.
Near the 1200m, WARSPIRIT mis-strode, shifted inwards making heavy
contact with the hindquarters of NATURAL NICE, resulting in both horses
becoming unbalanced. Shortly after, STAR BEAUTY, which was following
WARSPIRIT, checked outwards away from the heels of that gelding, which
lost ground when being restrained.
Near the 700m, HONGCHEN (App Z Zuriman) eased to avoid the heels of
RAVOUX, which shifted inwards.
Approaching the 500m, App Ng, the rider of APPELLATION, dropped his whip.
He was subsequently warned that a repetition of dropping his whip may lead
to a penalty being imposed in future.
Near the 400m, LION WAVE (B Parnham) clipped the heels of NATURAL NICE
when racing to the inside of that gelding, dislodging its rider. At a
subsequent Inquiry, Jockey Powell pleaded guilty to a charge of careless
riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that, near the 400m, he directed his
mount inwards, when not sufficiently clear of LION WAVE, which clipped the
heels of his mount and stumbled, resulting in its rider being dislodged. When
deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea
and the degree of interference and carelessness. He was suspended from
riding in races with effect from Monday, 24 August 2015 to Wednesday, 23
September 2015 both dates inclusive (a period of one month) and was
advised of his Right of Appeal. This penalty will be served consecutively
following the completion of his suspension for careless riding from Monday,
17 August 2015 until Sunday, 23 August 2015 both dates inclusive (two
Singapore Race Days).
App T See, the rider of WARSPIRIT, explained that near the 1200m, his horse
mis-strode and as he was concerned something was amiss with the gelding,
he steadied WARSPIRIT for a number of strides. He added that after a short
distance, WARSPIRITs action felt better and he continued in the race.
Subsequent veterinary examinations were requested on both NATURAL NICE
and WARSPIRIT which revealed no apparent abnormality.
