RACE 9 [TF0722]
KRANJI STAKES A SC (C) 1400M
MARTIN (M Esposito) lost ground after beginning awkwardly.
RAPIDO STAR (App TR Barnabas) jumped awkwardly outwards.
EL MILAGRO (M Kellady) and GOLD RUTILE (A Munro) both raced keenly in
the early stages.
After passing the 1000m, GOLD RUTILE was crowded for racing room
between WILD GEESE (CW Brown) and TRUDEAU (M Rodd), which shifted
At the same time, SPANISH BAY (I Saifudin), which was overracing, shifted
outwards slightly and bumped with ORDER OF THE SUN (R Woodworth) on a
number of occasions, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
Near the 800m, SPANISH BAY, which continued to overrace, had to be
restrained off the heels of EL MILAGRO for some distance.
Approaching the 600m, GOLD RUTILE eased to avoid the heels of TRUDEAU,
which shifted inwards slightly.
RAPIDO STAR raced wide throughout.
BOOMARANG DELUXE (App K AIsisuhairi) was held up for clear running from
the 600m until approaching the 100m.
Near the 200m, RED BEARD (J Powell), which was giving ground, had to be
steadied to avoid the heels of WILD GEESE, which shifted inwards.
A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on RED BEARD which
revealed no apparent abnormality. RED BEARD, which raced poorly, will be
required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to
being declared to race again.
Jockey Saifudin, the rider of SPANISH BAY, stated that the gelding began
well and was able to take up a forward position. He added that near the
1000m, SPANISH BAY commenced to overrace and proved difficult to settle
through the middle stages. He further stated that upon entering the
homestraight, SPANISH BAY responded well when placed under pressure,
however, the gelding tired over the concluding stages. His explanation was
noted. A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on SPANISH BAY
which revealed that the horse returned with a cut on its near-hind leg.
