STIPE'S REPORT
RACE 3 (R1512) CLASS 5 1600m(lc) FIRE PHOENIX II-1997 HANDICAP

Shortly after the start, COSTAMIALOT (App R Rueven) stumbled after clipping the
heels of CAPTAIN READY (M Zairi), which jumped awkwardly and shifted inwards.

GOLDEN PARTNER (I Azhar) raced wide first turn.

Near the 1100M, CHAMPAGNE NEEDED (M Wepner) faltered and became
momentarily unbalanced.

Post-race veterinary examinations of HEARD THE LATEST (App KC Tham),
GOOD ARTIST and MR MAGIC revealed no obvious abnormality.

MR MAGIC (WK Yan), FIERY GAMBADE (Lou Ho) and GOOD ARTIST (App M
Razali) which raced poorly, will each be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before
being declared to race again.

App WT Chung, the rider of BEST WRESTLER reported that his mount was not
striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious
abnormality.

When questioned regarding the performance of CHAMPAGNE NEEDED, Jockey M
Wepner stated that he was instructed to get a good jump, sit 2nd, 3rd or 4th position. He
said after getting a good jump from a wide barrier, his mount did not show enough
pace to go forward as instructed and he elected to ease back and travel in behind the
leaders, but was unable to come in as intended and was trapped wide. He further
stated that near the 1100M, CHAMPAGNE NEEDED faltered and near the 800M, he
endeavoured to urge his mount along to get into the race, and in the home straight
CHAMPAGNE NEEDED only ran on fairly. His explanation was noted. A post-race
veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.

When questioned regarding the performance of BLUE DELAGO, Jockey J Low
stated that he was instructed to get a good jump, sit midfield, make his move from the
600M and do his best in the straight. He said after getting a good jump, he sat
midfield as instructed and when he commenced to make his move from the 600M, his
mount did not respond as expected and in the homestraight, was disappointing. His
explanation was noted. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious
abnormality.

When questioned regarding the performance of FIERY GAMBADE, Jockey Lou Ho
stated that he was instructed to sit midfield and do his best in the home straight. He
further stated that rounding the home turn, he was taken inwards by MR MAGIC
(WK Yan) which shifted inwards and thereafter, he was concerned that MR MAGIC
was going to shift inwards again and as such, he elected to shift outwards across the
heels of MR MAGIC and thereafter, when he asked for an effort, his mount did not
respond and was disappointing. The Stewards told Jockey Lou Ho that they were
concerned with his vigour in the home straight and that he should have been more
vigorous a lot sooner than what he did on this occasion. Jockey Lou Ho was given the
benefit of the doubt and was told to ride all his mounts out in a manner so as to leave
no room for query in future. A post-race veterinary examinations of FIERY
GAMBADE revealed no obvious abnormality.
