RACE 9 [TF1420]
RAFFLES CUP
SPORE-G1 1800M

SUPER NINETYSEVEN (A Munro) and STREET LEGAL (CW Brown) were both
slow to begin.

Near the 1200m, WAR AFFAIR (B Vorster) steadied off the heels of STEPITUP
(App K AIsisuhairi). SUPER NINETYSEVEN, which was following, then had to
be eased after racing up onto the heels of WAR AFFAIR. At the same time,
BORN TO FLY (L Allpress) got its head up when being eased off the heels of
CASH LUCK (D Beasley).

CITY LAD (J Verenzuela) raced wide without cover throughout.

WILD GEESE (M Nunes) was held up and unable to improve from the 600m
until passing the 400m.

Making the turn into the straight, NANDOWRA (J Powell) was momentarily
held up on the heels of FLYING FULTON (B Faydherbe) and had to be
steadied inwards to obtain a clear run.

Near the 300m, NANDOWRA had to be eased when crowded to the inside of
FLYING FULTON, which shifted inwards under pressure. Jockey Faydherbe
was subsequently shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise
greater care when shifting ground in future.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on NANDOWRA which
revealed that the horse returned not striding out freely.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on CITY LAD which
revealed no apparent abnormality. CITY LAD, which raced poorly, will be
required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to
being declared to race again.

Jockey Beasley, when questioned regarding the disappointing performance of
CASH LUCK, stated that the gelding jumped and travelled well in the early
and middle stages. However, when placed under pressure from the 600m, it
failed to respond. His explanation was noted. A subsequent veterinary
examination was requested on CASH LUCK which revealed that the horse
exhibited signs of respiratory distress after the race. CASH LUCK will be
required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to
being declared to race again.
