RACE 9 [TF672]
KRISFLYER INTERNATIONAL SPRINT 2013
LUCKY NINE (B Prebble) jumped inwards at the start carrying KAVANAGH (G
Schofield) in onto BALMONT MAST (J Murtagh).
MR BIG (CW Brown) jumped away awkwardly.
DASHER GO GO (U Rispoli) jumped awkwardly outwards inconveniencing BEL
SPRINTER (H Bowman).
Near the 1000m, KAVANAGH was crowded and buffeted when racing to the
inside of SUPER EASY (J Moreira), which was carried inwards by MR BIG,
which in turn was carried inwards marginally by EMERALD HILL (J
Verenzuela). MR BIG continued to race tight for some distance thereafter
between DUX SCHOLAR (K Ulubaev) and SUPER EASY and lost ground after
dipping near the 900m.
Making the turn into the straight, DUX SCHOLAR brushed the running rail on
a couple of occasions.
At a subsequent Inquiry, Jockey Moreira, the rider of SUPER EASY, pleaded
guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that
making the turn into the straight, he shifted his mount outwards, when
insufficiently clear, thereby bumping DASHER GO GO outwards and SPEEDY
CAT (M Nunes) checking and blundering. When deciding on penalty, the
Stewards took into account his record, degree of interference, carelessness
and submissions from Jockey Moreira that he has been engaged to ride at
the Singapore Race Meeting on Friday, 24 May 2013 and at the International
Race Meeting in Chicago in United States on Monday, 27 May 2013. The
Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under
MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin
on Wednesday, 29 May 2013 until Friday, 07 June 2013 both dates inclusive
(three Singapore Race Days). He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
Passing the 300m, EMERALD HILL blundered resulting in its rider becoming
dislodged. Jockey Verenzuela was subsequently examined by the Course
Medical Officer and was declared unfit to ride. The Veterinary Surgeon
subsequently reported that EMERALD HILL returned with ruptured distal
sesamoidian ligaments on its near-fore. EMERALD HILL will be required to
pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared
to race again.
Jockey Prebble, the rider of LUCKY NINE, was fined a sum of S$1,000 for
making a celebratory gesture prior to the Finish in terms of MRA Rule 44(12).
