RACE 1 (R1043) Class 5 1200M (short course-A)
Emergency Acceptors, RED WARRIOR, PALMSTON and LIMS OCEAN were
withdrawn due to a capacity field.
DARMORE which was up 23 kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked
by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
DESTINY QUEST (R Rueven) jumped awkwardly.
FIRE TO WIN (App MM Firdaus) jumped away awkwardly and bumped
PICCOLO MAN (J De Souza).
Racing to the 800M, MR MAFEI (S Salee) race ungenerously for a few strides.
Over the final 50M, FLYING SINGA (O Chavez) which was finishing strongly, got
onto the heels of MR MAFEI (S Salee) and shifted out to obtain a clear run.
Jockey O Chavez, rider of FLYING SINGA reported to the Stewards that the
gelding began quite well but then showed no early pace. He commenced to ride
FLYING SINGA from 600M until approaching the 400M when he used the whip
on FLYING SINGA and it commenced to finish the race off strongly until held up
approaching the finishing line. Stewards noted his explanation.
App S Mutaza, the rider of JERAM JADE, reported that his horse was not striding
out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of JERAM JADE revealed that the
gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be
required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being entered to race again.
A post-race veterinary examination of PICCOLO MAN revealed no obvious
abnormality. The gelding was impounded.
