RACE 6 (R643) SHANGRILA IV STAKES, Restricted Maiden 1400M
CAMERO which was down 33kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the
Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
Trainer LN Danis was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(b) for failing to produce
the declared colours on CAMERO.
Acting on the Starters advice that MAMA MIA (M Gallagher) was difficult to be loaded
and had to be loaded riderless, the filly will be required to pass a test (starting stall)
before being entered to race again.
Near the 250M, METALLICA (J Low) laid outwards, obliging its rider to stop and
straighten.
Post-race veterinary examinations of LITTLE RAINFOREST and MAMA MIA revealed
no obvious abnormality.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of METALLICA, Jockey J
Low stated that METALLICA travelled well during the race and felt that the filly did
handle the going, however at the 300M, when he asked for an effort, the horse did not
respond as expected and was disappointing. His explanation was noted. Trainer R Lines
stated that he believed METALLICA did handle the going today, however coming to the
turn, he thought the filly would either win or run a place but he was shocked with the way
METALLICA compounded over the concluding stages. His explanation was noted.
Trainer R Lines was advised that if he detects any abnormality with METALLICA after
cooling down, he would be expected to report this to the Stewards. A post-race veterinary
examination of METALLICA revealed no obvious abnormality. METALLICA was
impounded.
When questioned regarding as to why ALI BABA went to the front as compared to its
last start on 22nd April 2012 in Ipoh over the 1200M when the gelding raced at the back
of the field, App CK Tan explained that he was instructed to get a good jump and to lead
or to sit handy. He further stated that due to the small field today without any pace, he
was able to lead comfortably today. His explanation was noted. Trainer KL Chong
confirmed the instructions and advised the Stewards that he has always given the same
instructions, however, he said that ALI BABA was unable to race forward last start as the
gelding was crowded at the start and lost ground. Trainer KL Chong further stated that he
thought ALI BABA had a good chance today in a small and weaker field. His explanation
was noted.
