BALE (D Beasley), which was slow to begin, was then inconvenienced by
GOOD TIMING (YF Leong), which shifted outwards abruptly after jumping
COUP DA VINCI (O Bosson) was crowded on jumping between AFTERNOON
DELIGHT (J Saimee) and DOCTOR WU (A Munro), which jumped inwards.
Shortly after the start, PARAGON ANGEL (M Kellady), which was racing
keenly, steadied off the heels of DOCTOR WU, which shifted inwards.
COUP DA VINCI raced wide throughout.
Approaching the turn into the straight, AFTERNOON DELIGHT checked when
racing to the inside of CHINESE CULTURE (J Powell). At a subsequent
Inquiry, Jockey Powell pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under
MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that near the 500m, he allowed his mount to shift
inwards, when insufficiently clear, thereby resulting in AFTERNOON DELIGHT
having to be eased and losing ground. When deciding on penalty, the
Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea, the degree of interference,
carelessness and submissions from Jockey Powell that he has been engaged
to ride at the Singapore Race Meeting on Friday, 30 March 2012. The
Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under
MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin
on Saturday, 31 March 2012 until Sunday, 08 April 2012 both dates inclusive
(two Singapore Race Days). He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
AFTERNOON DELIGHT, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a 1000m
gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.
