HAPPINESS 2012 HANDICAP
CLASS 4 SC (A) 1400M
CAIYAYA (I Saifudin) and SPLITSVILLE (M Au) were both slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, VOLPISTA (B Vorster) steadied and lost ground when
crowded between COOL CAT (App R Zawari), which shifted outwards and
SELIGI (J Powell), which was taken inwards slightly by SUPER STAR (D
SUPER STAR raced wide throughout.
MSIXTEEN (Alan Ng) had difficulty obtaining a clear run between the 400m
and the 200m.
Shortly after the 200m, when MSIXTEEN was taken outwards to obtain a
clear run, VOLPISTA was momentarily inconvenienced and had to be steadied
Jockey D McDonogh, when questioned regarding the performance of SUPER
GURU, stated that the horse was reluctant to stride out in the early stages
and he had trouble maintaining his position despite urging his mount along.
SUPER GURU then was very awkward in its galloping action and hung
outwards badly from the 800m which was substantiated on the various
Stewards video angles. Near the 600m, he used his whip on the off shoulder
of SUPER GURU in an attempt to straighten his mount. However, despite
this, it laid outwards making the turn into the straight. As he was concerned
with the geldings galloping action, he did not unduly pressure SUPER GURU
in the straight. Whilst noting his explanation, Jockey McDonogh was advised
and warned that he should ride so as not to arouse query and he should fully
test his mounts at all times. SUPER GURU was impounded for routine
veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported no
apparent abnormality. SUPER GURU, which raced poorly, will be required to
pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared
to race again.
