Trainer's Directory Details

After 20 years as assistant-trainer to Patrick Shaw including the first five years back in their native South Africa, Ricardo Le Grange was granted a trainer’s licence on 15 December 2016. Originally a stud farm assistant in South Africa, Le Grange went on to secure an assistant-trainer’s licence from the South African Jockey Club in 1993. He first worked with trainer Joey Soma before joining Shaw in 1998. From their first winner Kiwi Brooke, the pair enjoyed many successes back home, a trend which continued when Shaw, along with Le Grange, moved to Singapore in 2001. From Day 1, Le Grange was an integral part of Shaw’s multiple successes at the highest level at Kranji, including a Singapore champion trainer title in 2011 and, of course, the rise to the top of Singapore’s most famous racehorse, Rocket Man. Le Grange did not take long to continue Shaw's legacy in feature races, landing his first in the Group 3 Fortune Bowl with BIG BROTHER in January 2017. QUECHUA then provided him with his first Group 1 win in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup a few months later.
