Trainer's Directory Details

Sonny Yeoh Kheng Soon was granted his trainer’s licence on 1 September 2012. The Penang-born Singaporean Permanent Resident took over from his brother Dr Yeoh Kheng Chye who retired after 28 years of training in Singapore. Sonny began his racing career as a syce with multiple-champion trainer Dato Seri Teh Choon Beng in Penang in 1982 before joining British trainer Michael Jarvis in Newmarket for two years. He soon became Jarvis’ assistant-trainer and in 1984 returned to the MRA circuit to help Dr Yeoh when the former veterinarian secured a trainer’s licence. Sonny was assistant-trainer to his brother during which time the stable claimed feature race successes including the Raffles Cup in 1992 with Hard Rock and more recently the Group 2 Queen Elizabeth II Cup in 2009 with Restored. To almost everybody's surprise, Yeoh made a fairytale start to his new venture, when barely a few months after he saddled his first runners, he made a cleansweep of the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge with STEPITUP, including his first Group 1 success in the third Leg, the Singapore Guineas.
