South African Patrick Shaw started out as stable employee in 1988 before being upgraded to a professional trainer's licence by the Jockey Club of Southern Africa in 1990. Shaw was consistently amongst the top 10 trainers in South Africa and counts his success with TEAL in the 1995 Durban July as his biggest claim to fame. Shaw relocated to Singapore in 2001 and immediately came into prominence in 2002 when his charge PALACE LINE won the International Group 3 Singapore Classic and the Singapore Guineas. More Group wins have followed since and none have been more significant than the 2006 Singapore Gold Cup and Singapore Guineas with MR LINE and the Emirates Singapore Derby with OUR FALSTAFF. Shaw has also won the Kranji Mile twice, with BLIZZ BLESS in 2003 and SETEMBRO CHOVE in 2007. In 2008, Shaw applied the polish to one of the best sprinters to have graced Singapore - ROCKET MAN. After finding one better at several International Group 1 races both locally and overseas, ROCKET MAN finally broke his duck by winning the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen in March 2011 to enter the annals of Singapore horse racing as the first Singapore-trained horse to win an International Group 1 race. ROCKET MAN followed up that feat with success in the KrisFlyer International Sprint two months later. Shaw wrapped up that watershed year by claiming his first Singapore champion trainer's title.
